Counter fraud narrative workshops

We are running tailored workshops between January and June 2021 to help individual Commonwealth entities craft their counter fraud narrative. These workshops complement the Centre's Counter Fraud Investment Cases: Leading Practice Guide.

Through a compelling counter fraud narrative, Commonwealth officials can successfully communicate the fraud problem to senior leaders, raise fraud awareness in their entity and argue for effective investment in counter fraud measures and resources.

The workshops are tailored to each entity's specific context, and designed to provide participants with:

  • an understanding of why a narrative matters
  • the key components of a narrative
  • potential myths and misconceptions about countering fraud and how to use a narrative to address them
  • support in drafting a counter fraud narrative specific to the entity and/ or program context
  • an introduction to the Commonwealth Counter Fraud Narrative.

Each workshop runs for 2 hours and caters for 3-6 participants. They can be held in-person or online, subject to the individual entity's preference. And they're free!!

We ran 4 counter fraud narrative workshops in December 2020, with 100% of participants reporting they found the workshops valuable and that their capability to create their own counter fraud narrative had improved.

This was a really useful workshop, I will be creating a narrative which I can update and refer to when needed.

To measure the impact of the 2020 counter fraud narrative workshops, participants filled out a pre and post workshop survey. The survey results revealed that before the workshop 89% of participants understood the benefits of a strong narrative and after the workshop 100% of participants understood these benefits. Before the workshop only 6% of participants understood how to create a narrative and after the workshop 100% of participants understood how to create a narrative. Before the workshop 33% of participants were confident they could create a counter fraud narrative for their entity’s context and after the workshop 100% of participants were confident they could create a counter fraud narrative for their entity’s context. These survey results demonstrate that the workshops were effective in improving participants’ understanding of the importance of a narrative and their ability to create a counter fraud narrative.
